I do love a turkey that has become a little reckless, some may say wild even. Yes I like to start some reviews with a non-sensical and only mildly amusing opening ditty. Both the Wild Turkey 81 and 101 were amongst the first bourbons I tried and the 101 was one of the first ones I loved. I still do actually, must get that one reviewed soon. This offering is a barrel proof blend of several ages of Wild Turkey […]

Kings County Distillery is a craft distillery based in Brooklyn, New York and was founded in 2010. On their website they say that “Kings County’s whiskeys are mashed, fermented, distilled, and aged onsite in Brooklyn and never sourced from other producers.” I’d heard good things about the barrel proof version of this and that was actually what I meant to order but I made a cock up and ended up with the standard 45% ABV bourbon. Kings County are guilty […]

You can’t go wrong with good old Four Roses, really can you? They have some awesome whiskeys in their range including the Four Roses Single Barrel which is widely considered one of the best “pound for pound” bourbons in the world. The Limited Edition release of both the Single Barrel and the Small Batch (which this is a part of) are consistently excellent. I also recently had a taste of the Al Young 50th Anniversary Edition which was beyond spectacular. […]

The bog standard Wild Turkey was one of the first bourbons I tried when one of the pubs in our local town suddenly started stocking a few bourbons. I remember there was this and Knob Creek (which we found highly amusing at the time) and a couple of others. That was a good 15 years ago but I remember really enjoying it back then. The Wild Turkey 101 is well known as a solid whiskey and would be high up […]

Blanton’s has a solid reputation among American whiskey drinkers and with good reason. They produce consistently good bourbon across their range. I tried a sample of their infamous Straight from the Barrel “Hazmat”, so called because it’s ABV exceeded the 70% limit and therefore had to be labeled as a hazardous material, and it was truly excellent. I’ve also sampled other offerings from the Straight from the Barrel range and the standard Single barrel and have never been disappointed. This […]

I love Michter’s. They have to be one of my favorite brands of American whiskey. The Michter’s Toasted Barrel Rye is one of my all time favorite whiskeys and both the barrel proof and 10-year rye are excellent (only tried these in bars but hope to get a bottle of each soon to review). I also enjoyed the 10-year bourbon. Not tried the 20-year bourbon or rye but would love to (a bottle of those is a little out of […]

This little beauty scooped the “Worlds Best Bourbon” award at the Whisky Magazine 2018 World Whiskies Awards and has been talked about a lot ever since. Now all that means nothing to me, I’ve tasted whiskeys after they have been hyped before and not been impressed, I guess you would say I’m a cynic until I taste for myself. It’s newfound fame did endear me to it though, I must admit and I it was with surprising ease that I […]

Elijah Craig 12 has been a favorite of mine for quite some time so it was extremely disappointing to hear that they are discontinuing the 12-year offering and replacing it with a No Age statement version. The reasons given were that there has been an ever-increasing demand and they simply don’t have enough 12-year-old bourbon to continue producing it to meet demand. So we will be getting a mixture of 8 and 12 year NAS bourbon. I haven’t tried it […]
