To say I was excited to try this one is an understatement. I’ve been hearing how great it is since it first appeared on the scene and I thought I had missed the boat after failing to pull the trigger and buy it on several occasions. I didn’t see it around anywhere for a couple of months then it popped up for sale on Hendonism Wines and this time I didn’t miss out. I’m a big fan of Michter’s in […]

I’ve already reviewed the Michter’s US*1 Bourbon, the Michter’s 10 and the excellent Toasted Barrel Rye and now it is time for the standard Michters Rye. I’m a big fan of Michter’s and a big fan of rye so I was looking forward to trying this one for the first time and if the Toasted is anything to go by they know how to make a great rye whiskey, I’d eat my hat if it can hold a candle to […]

FEW spirits has come a long way in a short time. Having only started in 2011 and producing a range of spirits including whiskey, bourbon and even gin they are now a reasonably well-known brand and you can often see their bottles sat on the shelves of big supermarket chains here in the UK (I believe it is harder to pick up a bottle in some parts of the US). For me it is a little overpriced for what it […]

Hudson have always annoyed me a little bit, not because of their whiskey, up until buying this bottle I had never tried any of them. No, it was the way they managed to make people pay a standard whiskey price that you would pay for a daily drinker bottle but sneakily provide a half bottle for the same price and then put it in a fat bottle hoping no one would notice. The cheek of it! Alas, I’m a forgiving man […]

I have tried all the other four whiskeys in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection several times before but for some reason I have never tried TH Handy before so this was a totally new experience for me. Thomas H. Handy was apparently the person who first started to use rye whiskey instead of brandy in the Sazerac cocktail and it is him that this is named after. It is a straight from the barrel uncut and unfiltered version of the […]

First up for review from the 2017 BTAC is the Sazerac 18 which is the big brother of one of my favorite whiskeys the Sazerac Rye aka Baby Saz. That lovely little drop is around 6 years old so this has been in the barrel 3 times as long. The thing I love about Sazerac Rye is its distinct taste, it’s one of those whiskeys I know for sure I could pick out easily at a blind tasting. It has […]

One of the things that I like best when drinking whiskey is the thought of people enjoying the drink in years gone by. I love western films and series like Deadwood and Godless where they are sipping on a whiskey in a saloon, playing cards and drawing their pistols at the first sign of trouble. Another period of interest is the prohibition era, mainly from watching documentaries about the gangsters that were around at that time. It just seems like […]

Bulleit whiskeys are made at the Kirin Brewing Company Four Roses Distillery and the brand has been owned by Diageo who by their own admission are the “world’s largest producer of spirits”. So it is now owned by a big corporation like most whiskey distilleries these days but the history of Bulleit is a rather cool story. The Bulleit Distillery was started relatively in 1987 when American Thomas E. Bulleit, Jr. decided he wanted to resurrect the high rye whiskey recipes […]
